[Note: This is a listing of vehicles in the Marine Corps Aviation Museum at Quantico; it is based on a book manuscript compiled during the 1980’s. It is planned to update this during 2010 to reflect the new National Museum of the Marine Corps but in the meantime if you are planning to visit Quantico you should contact the museum for the latest information first.]

The purpose of the Marine Corps Aviation Museum is to illustrate the history of Marine Corps Aviation through the use of aircraft, support equipment, aviation ordnance, uniforms and documents. It is in the process of changing to become the Marine Corps Air-Ground Museum and will portray the USMC’s part in the pioneering of the combined-arms team with its exhibits of aircraft, tanks and amphibious vehicles.

This tank, Genesis II, took part in Desert Shield and Desert Storm. It was C Company’s HQ tank, commanded by Captain Ed Dunlap, 3rd Tank Battalion, and was retrieved from the MPF at Diego Garcia (source: D. Moriarty); the mission of the Marine Corps’ MPF (Maritime Propositioning Force) is to support the rapid deployment of Marine forces by providing mobile, long-term storage of equipment and supplies near areas of potential trouble. Genesis II is believed to have been the first tank into Kuwait City during Desert Storm (source: J. Daneri). It has since become a well-known vehicle as it is the subject of a plastic model kit from Tamiya. It is assumed that it was upgraded at MCLB Albany like the very similar Fort Knox M60A1.
