Text in original Preserved Tanks In Russia publication:
This German LT-38 was found in dense forest in the Novgorod region by a local and had probably been abandoned there by German forces during the war. It was confiscated by militiamen who found a buyer from one of the Baltic republics and prepared it for illegal export to Germany. Customs officers in Saint Petersburg opened the container (marked ‘scrap iron’), discovered the tank and seized it. It was restored in the workshops at Kubinka before being transferred here.
