The Semovente da 75/18 was first used by artillery units in North Africa in Spring 1942, and was then issued to tank battalions. Production for the Italian Army was as follows: 60 based on the M40 third series in 1941, 162 based on the M41 in 1942, and 205 based on the M42 in 1943.
A gun and superstructure front from the later Semovente 75/34 are preserved in the Caserma Tazzoli at Trento.

This M41 Semovente was previously part of the De Henriquez Arsenal on display on open ground outside Trieste. It was missing its main armament and was generally in a very poor condition. It is believed that it was restored to running order by the Trieste War Museum Consortium during the 1980’s and was put on display in a number of places. It is now on display in the Museo di Guerra. It is in good condition, though no longer in running order, and is painted overall dark grey.

This M42 Semovente is displayed in the Park in the upper part of the city. It used to be fitted with a fake wooden gun, was missing most external fittings, and was generally in a poor condition, but it has recently been restored. It has a plate on the side that states “A gift of the tankers of Bergamo to the city”. (Source: M. Viucci and D. Guglielmi).
