According to the BRC Stockbook website: “This Chieftain Tank arrived at the centre on the 29th September 2003 from the Bovington Tank Museum. Currently located in the Downyard, it is intended to be mounted on the War Well, once modifications are completed. It will then be displayed to demonstrate the original use of these rail vehicles, though it will be over-gauge for the rail lines at Quainton.”. It is a Mark 11 with Stillbrew armour around the turret front. Its service included CVD Ludgershall, Queens Royal Irish Hussars and 2nd Royal Tank Regiment (source: Bovington Museum Vehicle Record). Marked ‘LOAN OUT’ in Bovington museum record on 28 December 2005.
