The United States Army Heritage and Education Center (USAHEC), in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, is the U.S. Army's primary historical research facility. Formed in 1999, the centre consists of the Military History Institute (MHI), the Army Heritage Museum (AHM), the U.S. Army Conservation Center, and a visitor services staff. The Army Heritage and Education Center is part of the U.S. Army War College, but has its own large campus on Carlisle Barracks. Ridgway Hall
Ridgway Hall opened to the public in 2004. Home of the Military History Institute, the hall holds over 11 million items (books, periodicals, manuscripts, photographs, military publications) on U.S. Army history, including the largest American Civil War photograph collection in the world. This FT-17 has been fitted with a late-production American M1917 Light Tank turret. It is missing its 37mm gun. It was on display in the Patton Museum at Fort Knox for many years; in March 2009 it was swapped with another of the museum’s FT tanks (one recovered from Afghanistan) and was transferred to Carlyle Barracks (source: D. This Hellcat was purchased from a private owner in about 2006. It was in running order but had its engine removed before being put on static display. (Source: HellonwheelsV100). It is covered by a large canopy for weather protection, and there is a raised wooden platform next to it providing a view into the open-topped turret.

Army Heritage Trail
The Army Heritage Trail is a one mile (1.6km) walking path of outdoor exhibits and markers on various eras in U.S. Army history. Notable exhibits include a replica American Revolutionary War redoubt from the 1781 Siege of Yorktown, cabins built to resemble those of French and Indian War and American Civil War encampments, and several replica camp buildings from World War II. Another exhibit recreates a typical section of trenches from World War I, shell hole-marked no-man's land, and a corresponding German pillbox.
