The Muzeum Ziemi Sochaczewskiej i Pola Bitwy nad Bzurą (Museum of Sochaczew and the Battle of Bzura) has a permanent exhibition on ‘The Battlefield of 1939-1945” and an open-air exhibition of large equipment in its courtyard. The museum conducts research on the history of Sochaczew, collecting artefacts, archives and documentation. In addition, the museum organizes regular temporary exhibitions covering Polish art (painting, sculpture, handicrafts), Polish ethnography and broader subjects.
The idea of the museum was born in the 1970s by members of the Association of Friends of the Sochaczew Museum. In 1972 they began a campaign of collecting historical memorabilia. The first exhibition based on the stored collections was held in 1973 in the town hall. This gave rise to the creation of the Sochaczew Museum, which received the status of a National Museum in January 1977.
