The 2S3 was developed at the end of the 1960’s on the base of the experimental SU-100P and was tested for service as early as 1971, entering service with the Soviet Army in 1973. The 2S3 has a firing range of 17.3km and an ammunition complement of 40 rounds. The vehicle is relatively fast on the road, with a maximum road speed of 63km/hour and a road range of 500km.The large vehicle with its rear mounted turret was later updated as the 2S3M and remains in service with the Russian Army today. Many 2S3’s were exported, particularly to the Middle East, with several examples captured from Iraq now being in military museums worldwide.
