Yugoslavia produced the Russian T-72 tank under licence from 1984 as the M-84. The tank was produced in significant numbers (over 600 in total) and exported to several countries, including Iraq, which lost many M-84’s to allied forces. As of 1989 Yugoslav retained 200 M-84’s of which many were destroyed by NATO forces in 1999. A later variant of the M-84 was the M-84A with an uprated powerplant and other improvements.
