The T-55S Almaz (Diamond) was a specialised tank fitted with "Uran" television monitors in place of the conventional optical driving and sighting devices. The crew was reduced to three, with the commander sitting alongside the driver in the hull. There were television cameras for the gunner, commander and driver with a 1500-2000m range. The tank was developed from 1959 and operationally field trialled in 1961.
