The TO-55 was developed under the designation Obiekt 482 at the KhPZ bureau in Kharkov and KBTM in Omsk and manufactured at the October Revolution plant in Omsk, entering limited series production from 1956 as the TO-55. The tank was withdrawn from service as late as 1993. The tank mounts an ATO-200 flamethrower alongside the main armament. The only known TO-55 in a museum location is that stored in the NIIBT collection at Kubinka.
