The K-73 airborne SPG prototype was developed in 1949 in response to an urgent requirement for an air droppable self propelled gun for the airborne forces. The diminutive K-73 was armed with a 57mm tank gun with a multiple baffle muzzle brake and a machine gun. The crew sat in an open compartment as was later the case with the series production ASU-57 The K-73 had a road speed of 54km/hour and was amphibious at a speed of nearly 8km/hour, a small propeller being stowed in a special compartment at the rear of the hull. The K-73 did not enter production.
