Little attention was paid during the war years to the development and use of mechanised APC’s, the Russian norm of using “tank desant” infantry riding on the rear of tanks having sufficed at a time when all production was concentrated on primary tanks and SPG’s. Immediately after the war however, development of tracked and wheeled APC's was undertaken by several design bureaus including GAZ, which developed the K-75 tracked APC in 1947.
The K-75 did not enter production, but testing of the K-75 and K-78 began the process of development of APC's which ultimately resulted in series production of the BTR-50 tracked APC series in the mid 1950’s.
