The original T-37 was produced in 1933 at Zavod No37 in Moscow under the direction of N.N. Kozyrev, based on the original T-33 prototype. Only a small number (around 70) of the original T 37 were built before being replaced in production at Zavod No 37 by the modernised T-37A. The T-37A had additional armour, increased use of welding in its construction and had steel sheathed balsa wood floats. The T-37 series was in production from 1933 to 1936 when it was replaced by the T-38. The tank was powered by a GAZ-AA engine, providing a speed of 40km/h, and a water speed of 4-6km/h. The T-37 was produced in several modifications, including the commander's version equipped with a frame type radio antenna around the hull, designated T-37RT/TU and an OT-37 flamethrower model. In total 2627 T-37 tanks were produced of which 643 were fitted with radio. A T-37 turret can still be seen installed on the Salpa defensive line in Finland.
