The Garrison Petawawa Military Museums is one building home to two collections. The Garrison Petawawa Collection covers the stories of the Units and Regiments of Garrison Petawawa, from the steps of European explorers and settlers to the military operations of Canada’s Armed Forces. The Canadian Airborne Forces Collection covers the history of the elite First Special Service Force, the First Canadian Parachute Battalion and the Canadian Airborne Regiment, including their missions on D-Day, WWII Italy and Cyprus. On 1 July 2005, Petawawa Base Commander Lieutenant Colonel Dave Rundel dedicated this Sherman Tank to the town of Petawawa commemorating the 100th anniversary of Canadian Forces Base Petawawa. Enclosed within lies a time capsule to be opened on 1 July 2105. (Source: Waymarking.com).
