The Centrum Tradycji Polskich Wojsk Pancernych (Centre for Traditional Polish Armour) is the base of 11 Lubuska Dywizja Kawalerii Pancernej (11LDKPanc) im. Króla Jana III Sobieskiego (11 Lubuskie Armoured Cavalry Division of King John III Sobieski). 11LDKPanc takes its origin from the 11th Infantry Division of the 3rd Polish Army, which was formed twice: in 1944 and 1945. It was also transformed a few times: in 1949 into 11th Motorized, in 1952 into Mechanized, and in 1963 into an Armoured Division. It is the only armoured division in the Polish Land forces. Its primary role is to serve in a European Battlegroup alongside troops from Germany and France. It is equipped with Leopard 2A4 tanks, and armoured personnel carriers.
During the Second World War this base was a prisoner of war camp, Stalag Luft III. It was the scene of many escape attempts as depicted in the films ‘The Wooden Horse’ and ‘The Great Escape’.
There is a collection of armoured vehicles arranged in an outdoor display in front of the barracks.
