Tanks in town is a unique event, worldwide, in commemoration of the liberation of the city of Mons during the Second World War. Since 1999 the Royal Mons Auto Moto Club has organised an important gathering of WWII tanks and other historical military vehicles. Annually Sherman, Chaffee and Pershing tanks, plus tank destroyers, half-tracks, armoured cars, Jeeps, military trucks and many other vehicles peacefully ‘invade’ the historical centre of the city of Mons in a parade to commemorate its liberation. Recent events took place over the weekends of 29-30 August 2009, 28-29 August 2010 and 27-28 August 2011.
