It is the barracks with the largest number of Germany Army troops. These troops use the adjoining Stapel Exercise Area for training. The barracks include headquarters buildings, a simulator centre, sports grounds, gymnasiums, and accommodation. The barracks also house the Militärgeschichtliche Sammlung (MGS) Lippische Rose (‘Lippe Rose Military History Collection’) which records the history of many units that have had their home in Augustdorf. The collection includes vehicles, weapons and other material from the history of the Bundeswehr and, to a lesser extent, the East German Nationalen Volksarmee. The vehicles include a number of unusual experimental prototypes.
