The military history of Bure began in the 1960s, and the parade ground was inaugurated in April 1968. The Bure barracks has accommodation for 1,400 persons. On its grounds combat training can be undertaken by a reinforced infantry, tank or mechanised infantry company. It is mainly used for the training of tank and artillery forces, providing recruit and refresher training courses. South of Bure the Ortskampfanlage Nale and its grounds provide combat training with simulators up to the level of a reinforced company. It includes an urban combat training environment for mechanised troops; this dedicated training village includes thirty buildings of different types of construction and use, including residential houses, shops and restaurants. Training subjects include combat and security operations, and it is well equipped with the latest training aids.
