With Prussia, Kunowice became part of the German Empire in 1871 during the unification of Germany. It was conquered by the Red Army during the Vistula–Oder Offensive in February 1945 and, since the implementation of the Oder-Neisse line by the 1945 Potsdam Agreement, Kunowice has been part of Poland. (Source: Wikipedia).
Originally this place was the village cemetery. To fence the monument parts from the Jewish cemetery in Slubice were used. After the battle in 1945, in memory of the fallen soldiers, an ISU-152 self-propelled gun was set up as a memorial. It was replaced by a T-34 in the 1990s. On a plaque are listed the names of the Soviet soldiers that died in the battle of Kunersdorf on 3 February 1945. (Source: GeoCaching).
