There is a war memorial in the Rynek (market square) in Ścinawa consisting of a tank on top of a high angled plinth. The town was a stronghold of resistance for German troops in Lower Silesia. Many fortifications were built in the suburbs including more than sixty concrete shelters. It was defended by training school NCOs and students with more than thirty tanks and a large amount of artillery. After heavy fighting it was captured by Soviet troops on 31 January 1945, by which time most of it was in ruins. The fighting is commemorated by the memorial which is located in front of the town hall. (Source: Wikipedia.pl).
