During the Second World War, Deutsche Eisenwerke had factories at Duisburg in Germany and Teplitz-Schönau in Czechoslovakia. The company was responsible for construction of the rationalised Panzer III/IV chassis, the Geschützwagen III/IV, and vehicles built on this chassis, such as the Nashorn tank destroyer and Hummel self-propelled howitzer.
In the case of the Nashorn the superstructure armour was supplied by Witkowitzer Bergbau- und Eisenhütten, the chassis were supplied by Werk Duisburg and assembly was carried out at the Teplitz-Schönau (now Teplice) factory.
The Hummel, however, appears to have been completely manufactured in the Duisberg factory.
The Flakpanzer IV Wirbelwind was originally produced by the Ostbau Works in Sagan, Silesia but the Ostbau Works was moved into the facilities of Deutsche Eisenwerke in Teplitz and Duisburg due to the danger of being overrun by the Soviets.
