In May 1942 it was decided to begin production of the MAN design of the Panther tank; MAN and Daimler-Benz were to produce the first vehicles that year. To increase production capacity the firms of Maschinenfabrik Niedersachsen-Hannover (MNH), Hannover-Linden, and Henschel, Kassel were brought in and told to plan manufacturing the Panther, beginning in July 1943. In fact the first MAN vehicles did not appear until January 1943, while MNH delivered its first vehicle just a month later. In March 1944 those firms still participating in the Panther program – Daimler-Benz, MAN and MNH – converted over to the Ausf G with chassis numbers beginning at 121301, 124301 and 214001 respectively. By the end of the war MNH had produced 1838 Panthers of all models. In November 1944 MNH began manufacture of the Jagdpanther, and eventually produced 112.
