The Museo Militar Conde de Linhares was inaugurated on 12 October 1998. It is housed in a building that was built in 1921 and until 1996 belonged to the Reserve Officer Training Corps and 5th Armored Cavalry Brigade Command. It pays tribute to Don Rodrigo de Souza Coutinho, Count of Linhares, who was Brazil’s Minister of War and Foreign Affairs in 1808.
The museum has permanent displays on the military history of Brazil from colonial times to the present day. There is particular coverage of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force (FEB) and its part in the Second World War, including small-arms and personal belongings. There are also general exhibits of weapons, artillery, uniforms, vehicles and tanks used by the Brazilian Army (Exército Brasileiro).
