Panzerjäger Renault R35(f) Tank Destroyer

This vehicle was produced in 1943 along with many other types in response to the threat of an Allied invasion of France. A completely new superstructure was built on top of the hull of a French Renault R35 tank, in place of the original turret. In this superstructure was mounted the Czech 4.7cm anti-tank gun, as used in the Panzerjäger I tank destroyer. In 1941 orders were given to produce 176 examples of this tank destroyer. They were used mostly in France and the Channel Islands. Two other variants saw service, one of which was armed with a flame-thrower and was a conversion of the Panzerjäger. The other was armed only with a machine gun; it had a roof built across the top of the fighting compartment, and was fitted with extra radios for use as a command vehicle (source: L. Archer).
