Jim Kinnear was born in Aberdeen in 1959 and graduated from the University of Aberdeen in 1982. He has written numerous articles and books on Soviet and Russian military equipment and is a regular contributor to Jane’s Intelligence Review. He has lived and worked in Russia since 1992, and has a Russian wife, Lena, and two daughters. (Source: Preserved Tanks in Russia, 1997).

Jim has been author or co-author of many books and articles on tanks and other armoured vehicles. For Armour Archive he was co-author of Preserved Tanks in Russia (published in 1997) and primary author of Preserved Soviet Tanks (currently unpublished).
